Solomon amassed 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines (legal sexual partners of lower social status). To maintain a harem of 1,000 women implies a life consumed by continuous, rotational sexual activity and domestic management. “He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods...” (1 Kings 11:3–4)
Samson repeatedly sought out continuous, intense sexual relationships with foreign women (the prostitute at Gaza, Timnah's daughter, and Delilah). He was trapped in a cycle of immediate physical gratification that completely bypassed his safety instincts. “With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was sick to death. So he told her everything...” (Judges 16:16–17).
